New diagrams and other improvements in
support of UML 2.0
MagicDraw 10.0 improves the support of UML 2.0 adding the
following changes:
- New Composite structure diagram for
modeling internal structure of classifiers.
- Support of CollaborationUse,
InteractionUse, CallBehaviorAction, and parameterized Behaviors which
enable creation of the reusable behavioral model parts.
- Improvement of component based modeling
(ports, provided/required interfaces and other elements).
- Fragments in interaction diagrams for
grouping messages were improved.
- All diagrams have been updated according
to the new UML 2.0 notation.
UML 2.0 metamodel support
Historically, MagicDraw has always been the
first to fully support the UML standard. With UML 2.0 metamodel implementation
the new MagicDraw version delivers full support of the latest UML standard.
- The only tool on the market with the
latest public UML 2.0 Superstructure specification support.
- MagicDraw's support of UML 2.0 metamodel
covers all 4 compliance levels and corresponds to Level3 (L3).
- UML 2.0 metamodel was generated using MDD
technology and it guarantees that all properties of elements are
available.
XMI 2.1 support
The latest standard support of XMI for UML
2.0.
BPMN (Business Process Modeling Notation)
is the most recognized standard used by business users for end-to-end business
process modeling. MagicDraw with business-oriented notation support has become
a single tool for business users and IT users. Working with business models and
IT models in one tool saves time and solves model interchange problems.

You will find it significantly easier to
work with properties because of enhancements such as these:
Specification windows for all elements
- Tabs in all elements specifications have been
replaced with a tree structure. This helps to avoid opening many specification
windows: e.g. class and its properties of all inner elements are allowed to be
edited in the same dialog. Such structure increases clarity and navigability in
the dialog box.
- Element properties in the dialog box are now
displayed as a properties list.
Two predefined modes for displayed
properties: Standard and Expert
- Standard mode hides a large number of rarely
used UML properties for beginners.
- Expert mode promotes the use of more complex UML
properties.
Customizable properties
- Properties customization allows the user
to customize the list of most often used properties. This is very
comfortable to experienced users.
Non-modal Specification windows
- You can edit properties of several
elements simultaneously.
Navigability
- Easy navigation between different elements. You
may return to the previously opened element dialog box
or see the list of all elements you worked with recently.
- Quick access of inner properties and other
related elements.
Diagramming Improvements
New diagram toolbars.
MagicDraw version 10.0 has fewer
constraints on elements drawing in different diagrams.
- Elements in toolbars are grouped with intuitive
switching between groups.
- You can keep opened few toolbars at a same time
and model using elements from different diagrams simultaneously.
- Visible names of elements allow faster
location of the needed element.
- Toolbars flexibility is increased:
- The shrinkable toolbars allow having the
most often used toolbars opened and less important ones hidden.
- Ability to customize icon size in the
toolbars to fit your display resolution.
- "Icons only" view of elements in toolbar
leaves more space for diagramming.
Completely redesigned Smart Manipulators
functionality that increases the speed of modeling and diagramming.
- Easy creation of paths from context
toolbar. No more time is wasted clicking the toolbar.
- Easy creation of new elements by clicking
on empty space. The most likely element is offered, or with the right
click of mouse button you may select others from the list.
Enhanced Drag and Drop
In addition to the existing Drag and Drop
operations these enhancements were made to eliminate modeling time wasting
clicks.
- Ability to drop and assign any Classifier
on a TypedElement in the diagram
- Drop class on attribute, instance, part.
- Ability to drag an attribute from class
to create an association with role and vice versa.
- Ability to create an attribute in
Classifier by dropping it on any other Classifier.
Improved Code Engineering
MagicDraw UML 10.0 delivers flexibility in
code engineering operations with improvements such as these:
- Destination of the code reverse operation
output can now be any model package. You can specify different packages
for different code engineering sets. Available in
Professional and Enterprise Editions.
- Also, you can specify different output
packages in any available IDE integration. Available
in Standard, Professional and Enterprise Editions.
Improved Reports
Reports are now based on Jython instead of XSLT. It makes generation of reports
up to 7 times faster and more easily configurable. You do not need to learn new
technology, but can apply your Java knowledge. Additional change: Reports scripts
are moved to MagicDraw installation directory \plugins\com.nomagic.magicdraw.report.
Changed Open API
MagicDraw's Open API has been changed
because of UML 2.0 metamodel implementation. |
